Day 16: Southeast Soaker

The theme of the past few days (Day 13, Day 14, and Day 15) has been heavy rain and tonight is no exception.  Rain is continuous from eastern Oklahoma to the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of North Carolina!

Notice the comma shape to the precipitation shield.  The precipitation free area to the south and west of the “comma” shape is known as the dry slot.  This will become more important as we move into severe thunderstorm / tornado season.  Due to the late hour, I’ll defer on an explanation until a later date.
