Day 205: “Oh Bring Back My Bonnie to Me…”

Day 205

As discussed over the last few days, Tropical Depression Bonnie continues to struggle to survive in a very hostile environment. Today, Bonnie gave up the fight; officially dropping below tropical depression strength. Hence it is fitting to conclude the first verse of the Scottish Folk Song, “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean”.

As I discussed a couple days ago, Bonnie was experiencing extensive shear throughout its life-cycle; thunderstorms were continually blown away from the center of circulation. Now, hardly any convection remains around the center of Bonnie’s remnants. In fact, in the image above, Bonnie is located very near the small area of cloud cover south-southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River; note the lack of any significant area of cloud cover in Bonnies immediate vicinity! Bonnie will continue to weaken over the next 24 hours as it continues to move ashore. Bonnie’s remnants should eventually move into central Arkansas over the next couple of days, bringing with it slightly higher chances of rain, but nothing like the flooding that was experienced in the wake of Hurricane Alex across Texas and Oklahoma.
